RE: gas tank recall

No I ran into the same thing. I called when I got my recall notice. The car
had never been inspected for the recall before but the dealer said they
would not replace the tank if it was not leaking per instructions from VWOA.
So VWs stance is they will only do the recall if you car is leaking fuel or
is currently on fire. They will verify this by VISUALLY ONLY insepction. If
you bring your car into a VW dealer and they insepct the tank and it is not
leaking they will close the recall for your VIN, hence if youre tank ever
starts leaking you are shit out of luck. I went to 4 dealerships and was
told the same thing, although one offered to perform the pressure test at my
charge.
Im sure someone else will be quick to speak up and tell me Im full of it and
imagined the whole deal so YMMV.

My gas tank just busted a leak and I know that a recall went out in
1991 for this reason.

Question:  According to my local VW dealer the previous owner had the
car checked out in 1992, but it doesn't seem like she got the tank
replaced.  The guy at the dealer said that the issue was closed and
they wouldn't replace the tank.

Am I screwed, or was the guy talking garbage?

I remember hearing of a few instances where some listers had to raise
a little hell to get the work done so I am getting ready to do some
yelling if I have a leg to stand on.

And  if I am screwed, anyone got a gas tank they want to sell me?
