Tranny end plate

That green end cap on the tranny (85 8v) looks only half accessable,
unlike on my 87 gti. I changed the release bearing on the gti easily,
but on the scirocco , do I have to loosen the rear mount, lower it with
a jack to access the cap? Is there more, or is this even necessary?
