Cooling issues

Today (in ohio) it was hot...close to 90 with lots of humidity.
I was sitting in traffic with the ac running as I watched the
coolant temp needle do its little dance all the way up to the
last dot before the red line...I know, that's normal, but
doesn't this make anyone just a bit uncomfortable!?
I even have installed the lower temp fan switch and 80C themostat!
I just don't like to see the car run sooo hot. I know that
it's the way they were designed and all, but I want my rocco
to remain in the normal temp range all the time. It seems that
it would be best for the engine to keep it from getting
into those more extreme temps...right?
So, would a dual radiator fan move enough air to help keep
the coolant temp down? I have heard that these dual fans
can be found in certain 16v passat's...is this the case?
If so, what years could they be found?
Has anyone come up with a good way to keep the coolant temp
from getting so hot in traffic conditions?

TIA
