stock radio question

recently i took the stock radio in my 88 16v out, meaning i just disconneted the two wiring harnesses and the antenna input...when i went to put it back in, i ran into a little problem...after hooking it back in and turning it on, the only way to hear it was to turn the volume all the way up...and even then it was faint...also the only controls that worked were those related to the volume control...if you put a tape in, it would move as if playing, but the radio would continue to play...also the display reads "5AF E" the whole time...any ideas about this? i don't know anything about these radios so any help is appreciated, it's probably just something stupid that i'm overlooking...TIA
