Oliver,

AS the others have said they are 4 in number, and some are easier than
others to get at. The one in particular is the worse, the passenger's
side. (NA cars that is.)

A hex wrench (6 mm or 8 mm, I think 6.) is required and open end combo
wrenches are as well. Replacing the Hex socketed bolt with a standard
one is prob a good idea for the future.  Once the upper timing belt tin
is out of the way you can get an easier access to the bolts. Might be
partly done from up top, and partly wrenched at from underneath. It
_can_ and _will_ be done, so go for it. Don't forget the liberal pre
spaying and soaking of Liquid Wrench.
