horrible grinding and vibration

Well, i finally broke down and decided to ask the list about my
problems. :(

here goes...
 when i try to take off and i put the gas down i get this really bad
burring noise(make a "burr" noise from the throat and thats what it
sounds like) and it vibrates really badly. i replaced an axle, which
needed to be pretty soon, hoping that it would ameliorate the problem
but nothing happened. i can temporarily stop the vibration and noise by
letting off the gas fairly quickly in a low gear and by stopping and
putting it in reverse. its really bad when its wet out. also im
replacing 3/4 of my motor mounts, hopefully that would be it. im not
sure though and i just hope its not my transmission. any ideas?
