Need Wiring help/OBDII Motronic

Hey all, my 2.0 crossflow conversion to Katy's Cabriolet is growing closer
to being done.  I have all the wires tagged and ready to be spliced in
except for one wire that is becoming a mystery!

Background first:  Fuel injection is from a 97 Golf Trek (2.0 ABA code,
OBDII Motronic).

Issues have been many with the Bently manual, ended up having to go to the
local dealer to look at the lastest updated wiring diagrams to find the
right stuff.  Funny thing is, that the wiring shown for the 97 Cabrio
matched up, the diagrams for the 97 Golf didn't(in the Bently, the VW
dealer diagrams were right). Some things where shown on the Cabrio
diagrams, others on the Golf, it has been an interesting week staring at
the Bently. :-(

Now, the wire!  It is lilac and black (purple with black stripe).  The VW
dealer diagrams show it coming out of the ECU to a connector, then nothing
else is connected to it.  The Bently doesn't even show the wire on the
Golf or Cabrio wiring.  However, there is one shown on the GTI VR6 wiring,
says it is lilac and white (could be typo, black is sw, white is ws) and
it is supposidly a wire for the MFA gas mileage reading.  So what is the
damn deal?  Is this an unused wire on the Golf since it didn't have an
MFA?  Or is it something else completely?  

Any help is appreciated!  Damn wire is driving me nuts!
