  Thanks to everyone who responded and confirmed that the CV was the main 
culprit. I will replace everything else just for PM. Swapped out the axle 
today amid the falling snow in my open-air, naturally-lit garage. Three 
bearings and the cage in two pieces fell out as I pulled it off the car. 
Nasty.
  When I drove the rocco out to get the axle, part of the wiper switch inside 
the steering column broke, so I would have constant intermitant wipers 
because the arm sits at  the bottom position. Anyone have a spare MKI wiper 
switch w/ rear wiper, brown in color to sell?
