Re: New list member

hmmm,
hand only operated stick. engineer in me has to speak up.
Plus anything I can do to make a life better.

options.
I ride a motorcycle. so I inderstand exactly how difficult this could be.
hmm.
ideas.steering wheel paddle wheels on the sterring wheel. easy in most
cases. but turning in a parking lot shifting. too difficult.

Ill keep thinking.
an interesting solution would be to put a T handle on the shifter w/ a
motorcycle hydro clutch lever that ativates the clutch and allows shifting
at the same time. But I think that a ring would also have to be put around
the back of the steering wheel too. that activates the brake/clutch.
babble babble babble.....
thinking out loud sorry.

question for the list members and for our new listmember. what kind of
speed/acceleration[interesting controls problem] controlled power sttering
racks are out there and what is the smallest rack to rack turns available.

this could cause driver confustion tho. cause I am used to a linear
steering model. If the new steering model were based on a squared
function. center steering inputs would be fine, but as they got farther
out the control inputs would be much much greater.

You know what might help Ken is a description of what you currently use.
my guess is a m/c like throttle and break/ signal switches in the right
left hand and a regular steerign wheel in the other. I am assuming that
r/l because of handedness.

an option for the clutch could be a split lever.
the first two fingers operates the clutchwith a pivot point in the middle
of the lever and the outside two fingers control the clutch amd the inner
two control the brake (the most strength) ( this could also allow for
engin braking also in a panic the lever is grabbed and default pulls the
clutch in and aplies the brakes. with a paddle ring around the steering wheel to
shift in a motorcycle style pattern. 1(in) - N - 2(out) - 3(out) - 4(out)
- 5(out). better to have the switching gears more difficult for
upshifting than down shifting (too many other things to think about when
braking)

well everybody and ken pick a\part the idea,
1st major problem is getting the linkage to shift that way.
are there any ME's out there with a good idea? say for a typical H
pattern? (reverse could be a simple pull out with safety lever)

I could think up a few more solutions _if_ i knew his hands were going to
be stationary on the control surfaces. but I am assuming variable position
on the steering wheel for the "steering Hand".

oh well. I'll dream on it more later.

the simplest thing I can think of is the gear shifter + twist(clutch +
throttle) and putting an electric solenoid to automagically engage teh
clutch when braking.

But I think any of these setups would be waaay to difficult to drive on a
daily basis. but i'll keep thinking. (push button automatic could be
interesting on a paddle wheel shifter.)

oh well. I hope I havent offended and have inspired insight and thought.
