5 seconds?  That's nothing to worry about.  A few years ago I asked (on the watercooled VW newsgroup) how long it should take for the lifters to pump up, and was told that VW claims that its ok for them to click for 5 MINUTES!  I put up with 5-10 minutes of noise (only sometimes, usually it quieted down after a minute or two) for a few years, then replaced the lifters when I was in there changing the valve seals.
