Welcome, welcome.

General consensus is the 1.8T into the Mk1 is almost like putting in a
VR6, in that you have a buuuuunch of work to do. (not in the case that
it makes it all nose heavy though).

Better still was the idea of putting in a high compression GTI 1.8 liter
motor. Add the knock sensor equipment and you have a light car with 120
HP or so. Keep from doing too many mods and it will pass smog easy.

(That car came with more like 74 HP originally, imagine the difference.)

Shoot, even the 84 GTI Rabbit block I have in mine is a hot little lump
and it has no mods other than a K&N filter and a long tube header the
car came with. Cheap, easy to keep in tune, rock solid.
