Simple answer: old rubber brake lines

Are your rubber brake lines the original ones? I had the same problem. Once
I got myself a set of braided stainless steel brake lines, my 16v became the
maddest braking-machine I've EVER driven. If you spent the money on slotted
rotors, you should be able to afford SS lines, but at least get new rubber
ones. FYI, I also have slotted rotors and Ferrodo pads. In the Potterman's
words "they'll stop on a dime and give you change!" Make sure you're
stocked-up on wheel cleaner though...
