[driving comparison] Corvette vs Scirocco

Ok, so ive been driving this 1988 Corvette for the last week. Falling in
love with this car is so easy. Much easier than any woman ive ever fell
for in the past. Its well beyond a lust thing.
Lets get to the nitty gritty. Heres a base comparison between the 88
Corvette and my modded 82 Scirocco. (There is some feedback from the 84
Scirocco there too)

-Handling-
Scirocco: What can I say? Most of you might already know what a FSP
Scirocco can do on the autox course. of course I had to replace the
entire suspension to make it perform like that. Very nimble steering,
light steering feel, gobs of road feedback at the fingertips.
Predictable. Safe and very light.

Corvette: This car has the Z52 suspension under it. Its got some funky
front shock (Id like to know WTF they were thinking and WHY it is only on
the 88 Vette.) Stiff suspension, tight , nimble, moderate road feeling
and a wonderful 4 turn lock to lock steering rack! Its a bit skittish at
times but an absolute blast to be seated atop of. Its a heavy car and
even tho the ABS kicks ass, you still need to brake a little earlier than
the Roc does!

-Performance-
Scirocco: You can only do so much with a normally aspirated 1.8L 8V.
@130hp is alot of fun in this light car. The power to weight ratio is
good for what it is. (Hmm, lets see... 2380 * 130hp......... 18.3 -1 or
so?)

Corvette: I tried to do a couple 0-60 runs with the G-Meter Pro. If I
could get the tires to stick, I suspect I could get better thana 5.6sec
0-60. I will weight the car tomorrow at the local Autox and then do some
hp runs with the meter. I suspect 3500lbs?? its heavy but I don't know if
its that heavy. All I do know for fact is that at the last event, this
was the first time ive EVER had to not use full throttle. YOU CANT! Its
got so much power that you cant use it all. The tires break traction.
Simple as that. Autox rubber should help some. Next event! Its got a
chip, Borla exhaust so far. I don't know what the L98 motor puts out, I
think its 240hp? Whatever it is, I like it.

-Looks-
Scirocco: Classic! Need I say more?

Corvette: Its got its own class of styling. Its clean, smooth and looks
fast standing still. Before last month, id never driven a vette. Ive seen
a ton of them on the road, passing me at a track event ect. dime a dozen
kind of car you know.

-Pro's-
Scirocco: Affordable, Light. great styling. easy to work on. good
handling, trio purpose capable, FUN, roomy. LOUD!

Corvette: POWER!!! Handling, features! complete factory gauge panel.
Factory BOSE stereo system. This car is a chick magnet. Ive had more
women ask me to pull over while driving it around town than ive had my
whole life! I had one girl come up to my at a stoplight and asked me for
my phone number. What a freak! Wait, this might be a con!

-Con's-
Scirocco: 4 cylinders suck. No respect.
Corvette: V8's are very thirsty! "Ticket me red". too quiet.

So, in a nutshell. Scirocco's are nice. They're great intro performance
cars but the bottom line is, they're no Vette! (Which is why the Scirocco
is in ES, CSP or FSP and NOT in SS!!!)

What I found amazing is that even tho this is a RWD vs FWD comparison,
they both shared similar driving characteristics of each other. I still
love my VW's and will probably always have them. Im just appreciating
what ive never been able to afford before.
Thanks for reading!
