A/F mixture and gauge ?s

ok, so I've been running my autometer ultralight A/F gauge
and I have some questions. On startup, the gauge will fluctuate
between lean and Stoich, and after it is warmed up, it will usually
be on the lean side of things. At WOT, it never reaches rich, even tho
my little WOT switch is functioning just fine.
I adjusted my A/F mixture to a value of 40-50 as per a few folks
instructions, so I am wondering if the gauge should ever show rich.
I was under the impression that I should be running rich at WOT because
the switch takes the ecu out of the closed loop and into an open loop.

There has to be some of you guys out there running an A/F gauge that
can give me some pointers.......gotta get everything prepared for the
super-duper-secret turbo project :)

btw, this is for a 1.8 JH
