engine smoking!

ok. i was engaging in some spirited driving on friday. as i came down from
about 6500 rpm, i started to lose power. i pulled to the side of the road,
and smoke started billowing out of the exhaust. shut the car off, and looked
under the hood for something obvious, but didn't see anything. no idiot
lights or anything, temp was normal. it seemed like there was a little too
much oil (i think this was the prob). i had added oil a few days before, but
i had checked it when it was hot, so i think i added too much. anyway, the
smoke died down after a while, and the car has been running normally since.
i figured i probably blew some oil past the rings into the chamber. i guess
only 1 question: any chance that it's something more serious? maybe bad
rings? will there be any lingering problems (blown seals or whatever)? i'm
planning on getting a new block, but i need this one to last for another
couple of months...
