Re: Crappy ass Bilsteins (!?!)

I think what it is, is an internal pinching on the
shock. I had actually just driven through some rough
construction at dusk, and hit a few bumps harder than
I normally would crawl over them. It just stuck in
the lowered position.... when I lifted it up by hand,
it stayed in place for a moment then dropped. 24hrs
later, it is sitting at the correct height, but will
barely compress more than an inch (2-3 inches of
compression on other side with same weight applied).
It doesn't display the normal bad shock bounce when
pushed down, it really doesn't do much at all....

Actually, it was the top spring mount. It slid over
the end, down the shaft, and pinched around the shaft
keeping the shock from extending after a bump. It was
a shock failure per se., but the mounts were supplied
by Bilstein with the shocks, so it is a bilstein
failure.

FWIW - I do know that Bilsteins arent crap. I love
how they ride when they work. Like Dale said, I
probably got a set built by a temp on a Friday at
4:30.

And to Potterman's credit. I explained my situation
to him (school starts in a week. I go to school in
the mornings, and work at night, so I am fully booked
8am til 11pm sun-fri, and won't have time to fix it
til X-Mas, and my other car is awaiting a new voltage
regulator) and he sent out a set to me that morning so
I can swap them next week, and only be carless for a
day or 2.

The main reason this pisses me off so much is that the
first time it cost me $400 to get them installed. 1yr
later the rears go out, I swap them out (after much
trial and tribulation) and 6 mo's later the fronts go
out. I just got done replacing every moving part in
the front suspension/steering system a month ago. It
took me around 2 months after re-ordering parts that I
didn't anticipate being broken.... (ok- -I'll quit
whining now) Plus the $40 for an alignment every
other month is getting old too....

SO -
