euro parts here, american parts there?

i saw those clear taillights today (in person, finally) and all i have
to say is eeeewwww. probably didn't help they were on a civic, though.
it looked like his rear taillights had a whole bunch of condensation in
them and his brake lights were pink, not red. his wheels might have well
been welded to his 'frame' because when he hit a bump he jumped all over
the road. HOWEVER, all this got me thinking.
over here (in the u.s.) everything seems to be going 'euro'. for
scirocco's it's mainly a new light setup (which has it's advantages).
that plus many of the new cars coming out (even the 'domestic' ones) are
sproting 'euro gauges' (black on white face). why? as for the other half
of the subject, are there 'cool american'-type mods that people in
europe do to their car? i, honestly, don't know what these mods would
consist of, but i'm just sort of curious.
