Re: MK1 brakes

I installed the complete 16v rocco brake set-up on my 80 16v .

I dont know about the 8v master cylinders being different but the scirocco
16v ones are bigger . The one to look for is the 22mm one that comes on some
VWs . You can tell its size (at least on the 22mm ones) because it is cast
into the side of the master itself . I had the identical set-up on my 84 GTI
but W/O the 22mm master cylinder but when I put together the rocco I added
the bigger master cyl. This made the biggest improvement out of anything I
ever did to my brakes .

As for the brake lights I had to extend the wires from one of the 2 switches
to inside the car . Then I took a rabbit GTI brake light switch and installed
it on the pedal cluster by drilling out the small hole that is already there
to accept the switch . One problem I encountered here though is that the
pushrod on the switch is not long enough to contact the brake pedal arm . For
now I have a spacer on the brake pedal arm .
