steering weirdness

Help,

It seems to be turning left easier than right.  Since there are no flat
roads in Boston I can't tell for sure if it needs an alignment, but it
seems ok.  Also there is a slight rubbing/grinding noise when I turn the
wheel right while stopped.  No noise when I turn it left.

This started this week.  It happens whether there is a passenger or not,
and no, I don't weigh 450 lbs.

The ball joints were done last year, the steering rack replaced earlier
this year.

Can anyone help me pinpoint the problem?  Do I need to re-examine the
steering rack or is it something else?
