Try some of the Castrol wheel & general purspose cleaner. Its mainly set
to get off brake dust off sheels but ive found that it works even better
as an engine(bay) degreaser. if its caked on grease, you simply got to
use a parts brush and work at it. I find that just taking a parts cleaner
brush works really well over the entire surface. Wipe it fast and wrinse
it off.

Im sure other products like Simple Green and even WD-40 and Liquid wrench
will work too.

Simple Green might be the best way since the Castrol stuff can damage the
paint if left on for too long. Simple Green wont hurt anything.
