My Englishtown debacle...

I did not make it to Englishtown at all today. I was going to take my Jetta
but it only made it about 2 miles before cutting out and dying at a major
intersection. I forgot both my phone and my wallet (this is what happens when
you get up this early on a Sunday morning) so I was pretty stuck. I could not
call anyone, and if stopped I would be in deep shit with the local suburban
fuzz.

I wound up pushing it a for a bit and got it out of the intersection. I got it
into a small side street, and spent some time working on it with very minimal
tools. There was something wrong with the the fuel system, it would just not
turn over. After fiddling with it for what seemed like forever I finally got
it running. I was filthy, covered with sweat, and tired so I went home and
went back to bed, the hell with Englishtown.

After getting it back home, still running like crap, I messed around with it
some more earlier tonight. While driving along at 3000 RPM it would cut back
to 1000 rpm for an instant and jump right back up to 3000 again. Sounded like
a clogged fuel line, pump, or the like. I filled it up at the local Amoco, and
once again it would not turn over. I finally got it to turn over, it backfired
(first time in the 50K miles I had it) and has run perfectly ever since then.
Something for the future owner to worry about.

I will try to go to the Morgantown show next week with my Scirocco, I drop off
the Jetta to it's new owner tomorrow.
