KE Jetronic question. . . fuel enrichment related.

Hello Everyone,

Had a thought while comparing my two 16v's. I was
wondering if most people experience dramatic power
increases from fuel enrichment modules because their
oxygen sensor is not putting out it's full voltage
range. . . this question came when my new one w/o
enrichment pulls better than the usual beastie. . .
the difference I know could be any number of things,
but the new one had a new oxy sensor, and I KNOW
mine's not quite up to snuff. . . probably original.
With the o2 sensor disconnected, the new car pulls
just about as well as most 16v's I've driven without
fuel enrichment.

My question is this. Is it actually better to leave
the existing fuel system alone and just fix it? I
know that with the Techtonics unit, it tricks the
computer into thinking the engine is cold. . . putting
the fuel curve on a pre-determined pattern instead of
letting the o2 sensor make adjustments for optimal
fuel-air mixture. And yes, we experience gains from
the modules, but is it mostly because our fuel
delivery equiptment is ill-maintained?
