Re: Petrol or Unleaded?

Gary
I use standard UK unleaded in my 1987 injected GTX. You are meant to retard
the ignition if using standard unleaded, but it ran like a dog when I
retarded the ignition. So I put the timing back to standard and tried
accelerating up hill in a high gear and got plenty of grunts and NO ping.
But I do not know if I am damaging my engine or not.
With leaded going at the end of the year and premium leaded being priced out
of the market its correctly retarded timing and a dog or a pocket rocket
with leaded timing using unleaded which may go with a bang.
Also it may be my imagination but against my logic it feels like the lower
octane unleaded has added a couple of horses compared to the higher octane
leaded. An upgrade that costs less than standard!
If the price is right buy and have fun.
Dave
