Here's my 2 bits: I was driving around in the snow in my old 16v, doing my
best Colin MacRae impression, and I slid into a curb at about 70kph on a 30
degree angle. The control arm got trashed, and the axle bent where it hit
the side of that hole it comes through in the sheet metal. I also bent the
hub, so anyone who gets into an accident like that should check for this
too. The mechanic who fixed the damage said I was lucky I hit the curb at
such an oblique angle. If you hit a curb such that the axle is forced
inwards rather than back, you risk damaging your transmission (the axle
will punch into the drive flanges and differential :P )
