[Tech]Seat repair

Now that I'm armed with my information about fixing my seat, I still have a
question.  (The seats are from an 87 16v and the seat back wont adjust nor
will it release)  Can I cannibalize the adjuster knob and other related parts
from any VW seat to fix this, or do I need parts specific to my vehicle?
