short shift and clicking noise

Anyone know what would cause a 'clicking' noise when the noise is heard, the engine boggs dows?  Could it be my distributor?

Also, has anyone installed a short shift kit and then couldn't get into first or second? I'm having this problem now and I cant get back up my driveway (on a hill) to my garage.  This sux.
