As you mentioned, the newer VDubs have them on the top of the door panel, near
the door lock pins... to me, that's the best location, since any thief is at
least going to peer into the car from one of the front windows, and this LED
is impossible to miss from either front door window. On Saabs, with their
immense front dash surface, they mount the LED in the speaker grill, which is
right in front of the driver, about 5 inches back from the winshield. This
gives it plenty of visibility... but Roccos have little dashes (thank God).
I'd say go for the door panel, if possible.
