RE: scirocco-L-digest V1 #1073

I've just done this job.. you don't need the special tool to compress the
flange
if you have a g-clamp large enough to bridge round the diff case. The fixed
jaw of the clamp should be against the diff case and locate the end of the
moving part in one of the CV bolt holes.
You'll need the circlip pliers to put the new clip in but you can just lever
off the old one once you have tightened-up the clamp and the load is off the
clip - you should get a new one in the repair pack.
Getting the flange back on is the hardest bit - the secret is, when
compressing it with the clamp, to do it a little at a time and tap the
opposite side of the flange from the clamp, to ease it along the shaft,
otherwise it will stick on the splines.
The flange on the short driveshaft side is much easier to do than the other
one as access is not very good on the other side.
The job is probably a lot easier with the proper tool but I don't know if
they are expensive. It would be easy enough to make-up something that would
do the job.

Tranny, tranny, tranny. So?
Eh.
You will need to compress the drive flanges to remove the clip. Once the
clip is removed the drive flange comes right off of the tranny. There is
a stiff spring behind the drive flange so a special tool is required to
compress the drive flange in the tranny.
