The higher gears pull to redline OK even when its hot? If so, I wouldn't
suspect the ignition. In higher gears, you should have higher engine loads.
So if it were a plug or coil problem, it would act up at a lower RPM in the
higher gears. More engine load means that it requires more from the
ignition to create a spark. So if it is a problem with a marginal plug,
coil, or something else in the ignition system, it will act up most at
higher engine load, and in higher gears. This was my experience when I
found out that the Beru plugs were causing my premature rev limiting.
Have you checked the full throttle switch? What condition is the O2
sensor in?
