For a NON-crossflow old style 8v?  No.  I'd slap an Audi Fuel fuel pressure
reg. (vacuum connections for increased fuel at increased vacuum levels)on 
it, and hose it up.  Then (budget, right?) I'd buy a cheap-ass 1.6L
cam (dirt cheap) and replace the stock one.  I'd go junking for the
Audi throttle body, I'd FIX my tranny so it wouldn't explode if I had a
close ratio one,  Then I'd spend the rest of my money on suspension, as 
THATS where the speed is for new rallyists.
