header questions



i just got a set of headers (don't know what kind), a bit rusty (just
the surface), but i got 'em cheap so i'm not complaining.  the funny
thing about them, however, is that even though these are for a 16V, the
collector is only 2".  the stock 16V exhaust is 2.25".  so, which do you
think would be least restrictive...  the header with the 2" collector
into a 2.25" exhaust, or the stock manifold/dual downpipe with the 2.25"
collector into the same exhaust.  either way i have to take the cat off
because i'm installing 268's and i don't want to melt the cat.  a 3rd
option (i think the best but a whole lot more work...) would be to cut
the header before it gets to the collector, widen the hole and weld a
2.25" pipe on there...  any thoughts?

and for people who have installed headers, how is the stock manifold
held on?  studs or bolts?  should i be expecting to break a few?  it has
never been off the car.  is this going to be a nightmare?  thanks for
any info...
