RE: [tech] Wheel Bad Vibrations...

Sean,

Whenever there are vibrations that are specific to the speed-of-rotation
of the wheels, look at the things that are rotating with the wheel.
Axle, rotor, wheel, hub, bearing, CV's. Now think of which of these
would have been damaged in the lovely encounter with that MFing pothole.
Most likely the wheel or tire, but you say that the shop said it
balanced out fine. I don't think the rotor or hub would have been
damaged by the pothole, that leaves bearing, axle, and CV's. The axle
doesn't really take a lot of stress during the shock of a pothole,
neither the CV. But the bearing sure does. Is the vibration more like
oscillations (like an unbalanced wheel, 5-10 beats per second) or more
like a constant vibration that shakes the interior panels etc. The
latter could be symptoms of a bad bearing. If so it should get worse
with time (i.e. louder).
