Re-Update on Charging/Electrical Problem

After cleaning two of the grounds, I was under the impression that my car
was running okay. I had Jack (actually Andrew, who works with Jack)check my
alt and it was charging at about 55amps. But the car was running fine
nonetheless.

WRONG! I was indeed wrong for I couldn't get the car started anymore.
Hence, I went to my local Canadian Tire and had my battery checked. The
fellow said that it was shot. New battery and away we went. It fired
right up (both last night and this worning in the cold).

HOWEVER, on my way to work tonight, the same gremlims re-appeared. First
off, I was driving in third gear and let it drag for a little. When I let
off and placed the tranny in neutral, the RPMs dropped and the
motor/syetm/whatever you wanna call it went dead. As soon as I noticed
that the car was about to shut off I threw it back into third and basically
it was like push starting it. Was this bad to do? I didn't want to get
stuck out there in the heavy snowfall. After that it ran okay, I guess,
but (when at a stop light) I noticed that the RPMs kinda wandered almost to
the point of shutting off when it was idling.

I'm gonna look at the grounds tomorrow, provided that the weather is
bearable, but I need to know if I just add ground wires from the battery
negative post to where (I need help on this - I was thinking, the head and
tranny; anywhere else; I already have one on the alt from the head), is
this good enough for now.

What else should I look for? Could it be fuel related? Would a short
somewhere cause this?

Finally, I was brainstorming about this one. When I changed the instrument
cluster, there was an extra wire in the new unit. I added this wire but
it leads to nowhere. Is this considered a short? Actually would a short
cause the car to shut off while driving? WTF, I thought that I had this
figured out. Ah well, I guess, I'll keep hacking at it until I replace
everything.........

Thanks

Sal

Sorry for the long post, but I just remembered that I took out the Digital
Idle Stabilizer, and the full throttle switch is not added on to my Weber
TB. Could these have an ill affect?
