Brian,
You want them to check for leaks. That way you will not pay and pay for new
freon. I have heard that the surplus of freon is not as bad as the first said. I
have seen conversion kits in Pep Boys but I don't know if they are worth it (that
is quality). Also note that all the replacement freons are not as cold. My toyota
just sucks. My brother has noticed this in the cars he has owned and he uses it
all year 'round. Get a good shop to do a complete leak check, most likely at the
valves, and charge the system up. It might cost a few right now but if it is leak
free it will last. Also the freon mixture has oil in it to keep the whole system
running smooth. So if there is no freon in there then there is no oil. So if ya
run the thing you could damage the system.
