Re: Scirocco, a collectors car?

What makes a classic collectable?

The Corrado will not be the collector car. Why?
The car is not that important to the world. The Corrado
cost way too much and was not the class leader. I met a guy today
that had a MK2 8v then a 16v Scirocco and then a G60 Corrado
and now has a SLC Corrado. He said he should have never sold the 16v.
The 16v is the best of all Sciroccos for normal driving. The MK1
is a low end car compared to the 16v but the MK1 is more important
to the automotive world.

Yes it will be the MK1 that will be the collector car IMHO.
Why? Because it is a GG car. The MK1 is the designer car that got
respect from day one. The MK1 was the class leader.
The MK1 was the first water pumper A1 car. The MK1 Scirocco
is the Karmann built car that replaced the
KG and started the water cooled movement to replace the bug.
(the B1 Passat was the first VW H20 cooled volume-production car)
The MK2 is a better car for comfort
and the 16v is an exceptional car but the MK1 is now rare and
is the pure example of the concept. The MK1 is a functional
"sports" car. The MK1 is the sporty pocket rocket (no real power).
A sports car does not have power but is a drivers car. A super car has
power.
Now if you put some power in the little MK1 Scirocco, it kicks some but!
A good example of a MK1 is so rare that it would cost a bunch of money.
I don't think it will ever be worth big bucks. It will live next to the 2002
and the 510 in the category know as notable classic.
