Altitude. Was 1st day really driving

<x-flowed>I've noticed that my 16v also does great at altitude. I've driven up Hwy 18
to Arrowhead/Big Bear a couple of times in the 'rocc. The car will pull up
the hill in 4th and 5th gears no problem. I run most of the hill with the
smaller throttle wide open. Once I get up the hill, the car feels just as
fast as it does at lower altitude. It's really quite amazing. But the most
amazing thing is that the car actually runs cooler while climbing this
mountain than it normally does on the highway AND I usually get better
mileage. I haven't figured it out! One trip I noticed on the way back that
I had 1/4 tank left and I had driven 325 miles! That is impressive!!

On a related note - I had the car up at altitude this weekend for the first
time, as high as 8400 feet. I was pleasantly SHOCKED at how well the
engine performed - I could barely detect any loss of power at all!
