Bad Starts!

Firstly, thanks to everyone asiisting me in the grounding and difficult
start problems!

I finally replaced the ground straps on my Rabbit today. I soldered the
ends, used 4 gauge wire and used brand new clamps on each battery post. I
also replaced the starter cable and ensured that the ground wires made
proper connections. I replaced the ground wire from the neg. post to the
tranny and the wire from the neg. post to the body. Am I missing any others?

I started up the car with the assistance of a boost and it started no
problem. I took the car out for a 5 minute drive and let it idle for a
bit. I shut her down, and she restarted without any problems.

HOWEVER, after a coupla more tries it was over. It would no longer start.
It sounds like the battery was draining or something. For the life of me,
I can't figure it out.
The alt and starter are good cuz they came out of my rocco and it was
running schweet! I also had the battery tested twice. NOthing!

Coupla things that I became aware of.

First, tach doesn't work.

Second, the full throttle switch isn't working. When I activate the switch
there's no evident changes in the motor (ie, it's idle, etc). When I do
this to my 84 rocco, I hear the changes.

Third, my fuel pump runs constantly when the key is turned. It should
pulse for a sec and then cut out, right?

Fourth, my coil is slightly dented. I cleaned off the connections and
re-installed it. Someone told me not to worry about the coil. So I'm
listening to them.

What else should I consider? Maybe the black box. I think that it's the
Jetronix box, not sure. What's involved in the ignition? WHich parts are
involved! Rats, I'll get this thing started; just gotta be positive!

thanks for listening!

Sal
BTW, anyone have a working instr. cluster for a Mk1 Gti. I just wanna test
to see if it's my instr. cluster or what.
