RE: oil temp

Well, closer to 85... typically 80-95C, reading from the MFA. Don't have a
separate gauge.  Don't know if maybe lower ambient temeratures make much
difference.  Typical daytime at the moment is in the 60s(F), sometimes
70s,  and low 40s in the winter.

With an Audi AA 2.0 engine, cruising at 70-75 on a motorway, with the heater
off, the oil temp hovers around 80-85.
Sitting in traffic or driving at 100+ for any distance and the temp will go
up to 95, 100 max.
Acording to the MFA, it runs a few degrees cooler since I put in the 2.0
engine but that could be down to differences in the sender output. I don't
know what the tolerances are for these things.
I've only ever had the temp as high as 110+ by redlining the 1.8 for a good
few miles.

Are you telling us that your 8v typically runs at 75C-85C? That seems
awfully low to compared to what my cars run at.  Both my 79 Scirocco and my
87 GTI 16V run at 110C to 120C when warm.  The GTI runs hotter when it gets
hot outside (90F+) but never at 170C.  That would be over 300F wouldn't it?
BTW,  readings are from a gauge in the Scirocco and from the MFA in the GTI.

That's almost double what my 8V runs at. I'd guess either the
sender/MFA/gauge is faulty, esp. if the water temp seems OK, or you're very
short on oil or your engine is toast! Is it pinking a lot? maybe your
timing belt has jumped a tooth - that can make it run hot, but I think you'd
notice the difference in performance.

My oil temp runs 150C-170C when fully warmed up. Seems a little high. Any
thoughts?
