Re: power steering on sciroccos



I'm not sure about the argument here.  Power steering is not a solution to
torque steer.  Torque-steer is the tendency to pull in the direction of the
drive wheel that is receiving power, rather than going the direction the
driver is trying to steer.   Power steering may make it easier to correct
for torque-steer but it doesn't solve the underlying problem.  Even today,
cars are being launched (with power steering I may add) that have bad
torque-steer problems.  The just replaced Alfa 156 had such a problem, as
does the Saab 9.5 Viggen, and some have suggested that the current Jetta VR6
has it as well.  The more powerful the car, the more difficult it is for
suspension engineers to dial out torque steer (thought not impossible).  Our
old 'roccos may also suffer more from torque steer if their suspensions are
misaligned or if the tyre pressures are wrong.
