RE: Rear calipers w/ E-brake trouble

What's the deal then with my 87 GTI 8V rear calipers... ...I've never had
a problem with them (over 100K miles) and I believe they are the same as my
87 Scirocco 16V. Yes, No?

There's really nothing you can do (that I know of). This is the one part
of the 16v that there's NO help for. What I did was to buy rebuilt
calipers and got the lifetime warranty that BigWheel Rossi (a chain here)
offers. My rebuilt calipers ALREADY don't have a working e-brake, and it
failed in less than a month. I'll take them back whenever I get around to
it. Seems like most people get more time out of them than that, but they
all fail eventually. The break works fine, but the e-brake sucks. My
mechanic (90 Cabrio with a 16v conversion) is looking into a completely
aftermarket solution, but hasn't gotten back to me yet. It'll probably be
expensive...
