I would say it is the voltage regulator.  Remove the voltage regulator from 
the alt.(real easy just two screws) and look at the brushes on it.  If they 
are warn down ( bently has exact measurments) slap in a new one and your back 
in business.  Its less than A 5 minute job to do.  The regulators are pretty 
cheap too.  I had this happen to me 2 years ago with the same warning light 
indcations.
