Re: Scirocco audio---recommendations? Kinda long

Two different companies make some very nice 4x6 metrics for our cars,
that fit without modification. I'm not sure if you can put the factory
grilles back on, though (I didn't).
Pioneer makes them in three levels of trim... the cheapest are about $40
a pair and the most expensive are about $80-$90. They all have about the
same bass and midrange (lousy bass, but good for a 4x6, and good
midrange), but what you're paying for is better treble as you go up. You
can definitely hear the difference.
Boston Acoustics also makes a nice set of Metric 4x6's. Go to a store
that has all of these on display (you may have to go to a couple
different stores) and listen to them to figure out what you want. It's
all a matter of personal preference. The other thing you can do is go
with stock size 4x6 metrics up front and then build yourself a rear deck
and put some oversize 6.5" speakers in there and maybe a 10" subwoofer or
two. In my Rabbit, I have some nice Boston 3.5" speakers up front (stock
size in a Rabbit), and then in the rear deck I have two 6x9's (but I
would go with some round speakers if I was buying new... I got these,
which are fairly nice Pioneer three-ways, used for $20), and two 10" JBL
subs. The 3.5" and the 6x9's are powered by my Sony 4x20 deck and the
subs are powered by a crappy Legacy 300W amp. It sounds great, when the
Legacy amp feels like working... it randomly changes how much power it
feels like putting out every time I disconnect it and then connect it
again... anybody have any ideas why, besides that it SUCKS? (Actually, it
sounds great when it works... heh)
