A/C expansion block?

What is an a/c expansion block?  Mechanic said it is a valve or some
shit like that, but I don't know what he's talking about.  What's
involved in replacing one?  I'm taking my car *back* into the shop to
have the a/c system pressurized so they know exactly where the problem's
coming from, but I wanna know what this guy's talking about before I go
in.  Can one of you gurus help me out here?  Thanks.
