This was one of my very first mods that I did years ago. :)

Remove the cluster from the car. Take it inside and do the work on the
dinner table. (No special reason other than to piss off the ol lady.)

Remove all of the bolts on the back of the cluster which hold the spedo
in. Carefully remove the spedo being extra careful not to damage the
circuit board. Install the new spedo, circuit board and reinstall the
bolts.

Reinstall in the car and drive. Of course it takes a little longer to do
it time wise. Its not that difficult of a job overall.

Now, if you want the milage to be accurate, you find the pin that holds
the numbers roller and find the end that is crimped. Either trim this end
off, or (like i do) crimp it again so its rounded enough so you can slide
part of the rod out of the housing which, will allow the numbers rollers
to be free enough to be rotated by hand. Turn the numbers until
_your_milage_ is shown and reinstall. Don't forget to recrimp the rod
again. Or it will fall out while your driving and then you'll be saying
to yourself, "dang, i've been driving for hours and haven't gone
anywhere".

If this procedure is illegal where you live, Don't do it. Remember I told
you that when your being arrested for tampering. :)
GL!
