Yeah, it's fully synchronized, but every single VW I've owned (other than my
'69
bug!), even when new, hasn't wanted to go into first except at very low
speeds.
Why do you want to downshift into first anyways?  Maybe in auto-x or
something,
but in daily street driving, it really shouldn't be necessary.. if you must, I
suggest you double-clutch, with just a little practice, you should be sliding
that puppy in there like Slick Willy into an intern......... :0
