Re: Buying a Scirocco... (Fake GTX)?

Thanks Dirk. I did not know which year the GTX
got the extra details. Some of the stuff I listed
was on the "GT" in 83 too. My history books show
only the 84-88 GTXs. It sounds like Germany got the GTX
one year before the rest of europe. The US did not fet the Scirocco 2
untill 82 but Germany had it in 81. I have found that Sciroccos
have different details all around the world.
My catalog from Japan list a Kamei kit on the GT in 83.

In 1982 the US did get a Scirocco MK2 that is like Dirk
describes except for all the Euro lights and
bumpers were not included. The Zender rear wing may
not have been on the US car too. I think the Euro version had the smaller
US type
head lights too. The 82 US limited Scirocco had the Kamei X1-bodykit.
I think it was offered in 83 for a short time. The 82 and 83 Sciroccos had
the 1.7ltr
motor. The 84s were a different story:
All the good Golf GTI stuff became standard on the Scrocco line. It was
VW's
first performance equipment on the performance model. Included were front
16mm and rear 19mm anti-roll bars, revised stiffer spring rates, Vented
disc
breaks an the 90 hp 1.8-liter motor with a power peak at 5500 rpm.
The 84 had a 5-speed close-ratio gear box. Top speed was 110 mph.
The 0-60 was 10 sec flat. The car came with 14-inch BBS alloy wheels.
Most of the US cars had the 13" wheels. The Sciroccos were badged
"SCIROCCO", "SCIROCCO GL fuel injection"(GLi) and "SCIROCCO GL".
I think that VWoA added a turbo kit to some of the cars in 85. I still
think
it was not badged "GTX" in the US.

Dirk has a GTX and you can see it on his page.
He has a custom grille. Later GTXs have more stuff on them like I listed.

Hmmm... Everything maches. I think that my GTI is GTX! :)
No red lines - yup!
Big lights - yup!
Kamei X1-bodykit - yes!
Zender rear wing - in place!
What is the glove-box and B-pillar?
Stickers - stickers!
No textile - no!
"Avus" 14" alloys with195/60 - yes!
112 HP injection - yep!
Antenna - Hmm... looks like a 16v antenna!?
