Re: New Fuel Relay but no pump action (The woes continue...)

I don't have my Bently here unfortunately....but I can tell you that on
the older VWs (I don't know when they changed it) that the fuel pump relay
has to be triggered by the coil to turn on. So when you turn the key you
shouldn't hear the pump at all, or just a little short burst. Once you
start cranking the engine, the coil fires, and sends a signal to turn on
the relay, thus the pump. This was done out of saftey reasons, so if you
wrecked and then engine stopped, so would the fuel pump, to prevent
feeding a fire with your nice flammable gas!

This could be your major problem!!!! Sounds like you have an electronic
ingnition! That connector (it's black right??) is for the hall sender. If
I remember correctly, there should be a lead off of your ignition controll
module for that connection. (The ignition control modual is small, maybe
2-3" wide...usually bolted under the rain tray)

Check it out in the bentley....the hall sender tells the coil when to fire
if I remember corretly....it replaces the points on non-electronic
ignitions...

Back me up on this o-knowledgeable ones!
