I just did this this weekend. ( Well, over the last three weekends. ) The 1.8
in the '84 GTI will bolt right up except:

1. The A/C in the GTI uses a different mounting system for the Alt and water
pump pullies. You can leave the big honkin iron in the front of the car but it
ways 1/2 ton.

2. Despite what I just said it is possible to retrofit the 1.8 engine by using
bits and pieces from each engine, email me if you'd like more details.

3. Use the exhaust from the '81, it is a better flowing unit than the 4-1
sucker that is on the '84.


$100 bucks is a good price unless the thing is toast, then it may be more
trouble to dispose of.
