NEED HELP!!!!TIMING????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Ok...I have a 1.6 w/ weber, and g-grind cam and point ignition....Anyways I
had retarded timing at first because I had the timing gears on and off...but
now I messed with the distributor  and I can't get my car to start...and when
it does almost start I shoot a small flame out of the carb...so how do I get
it to actually start and idle......I need as many responses asap so any will
be greatly appreciated..BTW when it does run...it sounds like it's runnin on 2
cylinders at the most and with the pedal to the floor it runs at about 2300
RPM....My car is messed!!!!!
