Cruise Control

Ok, i recently bought an 86 scirocco 8 valve. it had cruise control 
but the previous owner disconnected it becasue of problems with 
the battery (didn't make sense to me, as i didn't think the two were 
related) for info it was disconnected by removing one of the vacuum 
hoses. my question is thus: are there any reasons to leave it 
disconnected? the battery has been replaced and all electronics 
are working great, is there any major reason i shouldn't reconnect 
it? anything major to look for when i reconnect it(as in things that 
frequently go wrong with cruise control on scirocco's?)
